There are three primary ways to make money with your own website:
* Sell your own products or services
* Sell someone else's products or services
* Advertise on your website

Sell Your Own Products or Services: You can do this by something as simple as creating a web site that talks about your product or service to encourage people to by, or something as fancy as creating a full-blown online store with a shopping cart, credit card payments, etc. This is frequently the best way to earn the most profit per sale, as you are eliminating the middleman. Almost all web site hosting services today offer good site builders to help you create site quickly and easily, as well as good shopping cart programs to assist you building on online store. You're only limited by your imagination.

Sell Someone Else's Products or Services: there are thousands of companies that are more than happy to pay you a commission for selling their products or services on your web site. These are called "affiliate programs", in which you become an "affiliate" by partnering with a company to sell their products. Basically, you build a website around the product or service that you want to promote, drive traffic to the web site, and hope that your sales pitch convinces people to click on a link and purchase the product. For each sale, you receive a commission that can be as low as 5% or as high as 75% of the purchase price. There are many people making excellent incomes doing this.

Advertise on Your Website: Google offers the most well-known advertising commission program. It's called AdSense. Basically, it works like this. You sign up for an account and Google then gives you some code to place on your site. What this code does is present advertisements that are related to the topic of your website. If someone clicks on that ad, you get a small commission, whether or not they actually buy anything. This commission can be anywhere from a few cents per click to several dollars per click, based on how much that advertiser is paying Google to place their ads. There are many people making thousands of dollars per month by creating websites that are very informative on a particular topic and driving lots of traffic to that website. The more traffic, the more people click on the Google ads, and the more money that web site owner makes. It's really as simple as that. Of course, obtaining massive amounts of traffic is another story.
